FAQs

Got a question for us? Well you might just find the answer here!

Do you ship to me?

We are legally certified to ship Australia wide. At checkout you can select your location from the options available. We do ship to TAS, WA and the NT which requires a Plant Health Certificate by Tasmanian, Western Australian and Northern Territory Biosecutiry to meet their stringent Quarantine specifications. We are fully Government Certified to do so. The cost of the certificate is included in the shipping price. The certificate is required whether inspection occurs or not, inspection is random and the State may choose to implement additional fees. See our Terms and Conditions for more.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is based on the size and weight of the cart at checkout and the location the order is being shipped to. The options are available at checkout starting at $12 for plants, going up in block amounts from there.

Do you hand deliver?

Yes, but only to specific locations. We have an option on checkout for Mornington Peninsula Shire Delivery, which is hand delivery to the Peninsula only. The following suburbs are included, orders to suburbs not in this list require pick up or shipping to be selected.

Arthurs Seat, Balnarring, Balnarring Beach, Baxter, Bittern, Blairgowrie, Boneo, Cape Schanck, Capel Sound, Crib Point, Dromana, Fingal, Flinders, Hastings, HMAS Cerberus, Main Ridge, McCrae, Merricks, Merricks Beach, Merricks North, Moorooduc, Mornington, Mount Eliza, Mount Martha, Point Leo, Portsea, Red Hill, Red Hill South, Rosebud, Rye, Safety Beach, Shoreham, Somers, Somerville, Sorrento, St Andrews Beach, Tootgarook, Tuerong and Tyabb

Do you have an online layby or pay later system?

Yes, we have AfterPay. It is avaliable on checkout. Please see the AfterPay website for details.

When will my order be sent?

Orders are sent Monday to avoid plants in transit over the weekend, although sometimes this is unavoidable. Our order cycle is Monday 7am AEST to Monday 7am. This means an order placed after 7am Monday will go in a weeks time, not the same day.

Can I add to my order?

We are happy for you to add to an existing order up to 7am AEST Monday when the weeks cycle ends. This can be done by selecting the PICK UP option on the additional order. If more shipping is required, we will contact you directly for this to be paid before the order is sent. PLEASE NOTE: The same name and address must be on all orders in a cycle to combine them.

Can you delay my shipping or pick up order?

Orders made online for Pick Up at our Dromana Store need to be collected within two weeks of purchase. Shipping orders cannot be held, except under exceptional circumstances. If, after agreement by Verdant Dwellings, a shipping order is held, the order cannot be held for more than two Monday shipping cycles. For example, an order placed on a Sunday can be held for a week and a day, not two weeks and a day. As a functioning Nursery and Retail Store, there is limited space for us to store plants and items. The space is required for new stock to be grown and properly cared for.

Who will deliver my order?

We use both Australia Post (eParcel, Express and Standard post), Fed Ex (formally TNT) Couriers through Big Post and Shippit for our deliveries. We decide who will be used based on the size of the order and the location it will be going to. Once an order is picked up by the carrier, it is no longer the responsibility of Verdant Dwellings. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more.

Where is my tracking?

Tracking numbers are sent to the email you provided by the carrier Verdant Dwellings has selected. The emails will therefore come from Big Post, Shippit or from Australia Post under 'Verdant Dwellings' as the sender. Having the Australia Post tracking app on your phone is the best way to be up to date with any order coming from eParcel, Express and Standard post. Orders of 20 or less plant and totem clips are sent in an envelope via Standard Post and do not have tracking to keep the shipping cost as low as possible.

I don't want an Invoice included in my Parcel?

To try and save unnecessary paper wastage, Verdant Dwellings does not send an Invoice in any of our parcels. The Confirmation Email received on checkout has all the info you need.

When do you re-stock?

We re-stock the website when plants become avaliable and ready for their forever homes! We announce website restocks on our socials, Instagram and Facebook, so make sure you get notifications to stay up to date. If you want a specific plant or item that is sold out, you can add your email to the waitlist. You will then recive an email when the plant or item is back in stock.

Can I pre-order or hold an item?

No, we don't do pre-orders or holds, however we do have item waitlists. Sometimes we have limited stock numbers on popular or difficult to acquire plants and we want to give everyone a fair go so dont pre-sell them. You can put your email on the items waitlist however, and then you will be emailed as soon as the item is available. Waitlists are on the listing of sold out plants and items.

Do you ship cuttings or bare rooted?

No, we only ship potted plants (unless otherwise specified in the plant listing). We do this as the chance of shock is diminished meaning healthier plants in the long run. It also means that if orders are delayed in the mail, they are sitting in their soil and will not die, but simply become partially dormant.

Should I re-pot my plant when it arrives home?

No, we strongly do not recommend that. Obviously you are free to do what you wish with your new plant however immediate re-potting after transit can lead to shock, watering issues and the demise of the plant. Verdant plants have enough to sustain them in the nursery pot they arrive in for at least 3 months, but most for much longer, unless stated on the specific plant listing. They are happy where they are, so there is no need to do anything but enjoy! If you must re-pot, please wait a minimum of 2-3 weeks after arrival before doing so, longer in cooler months or for fine rooted plants including immature plants.

Why do you use Peat Moss?

Jeff, as a trained Horticulturalist, has worked for Commercial Wholesale Growers for 20 years, much of which in Management and Indoor Plants exclusively. Over 10 years ago, the Nursery Jeff Managed switched to pure Peat Moss due to the multiple benefits noticed, not just from a growing point of view, but a plant health and happiness point of view. Verdant Dwellings have continued growing exclusively in Peat and switch most plants grown elsewhere over to Peat before they are sold. Peat Moss holds water meaning less water is needed on a less frequent basis. Peat Moss has finished decomposing meaning the fertiliser is only used by the plant, not stollen by the soil. Root development in Peat is very fast as the plant has more access to water and nutrients and doesn’t have to constantly fight its environment. It is easy to feel when Peat is dry as it will contract and feel very light. Peat does not need pots with drainage as the soil holds the moisture rather than simply becoming wet, which, for Indoor Plants, mean pots can be put on any surface and watered in place. As Peat becomes hydrophobic when very dry, water in a non drainage hole pot is given the opportunity to be absorbed back into the Peat, rather than running off and away from the root system of the plant or leaving it with wet feet. Peat arrives in large sterilised bales meaning there are no dormant pests in soil you purchase from Verdant Dwellings. Verdant Dwellings has done a lot of research on their Peat Moss and import a product, only available commercially, that is sourced from Sustainable farms from Canada, with some from Lithuania and Holland, who work very closely with University Research Departments and the Government to ensure minimal environmental disturbance. In fact, they have legislations in place meaning only a certain amount of Peat, to a certain depth, is allowed to be farmed and the land is then 'seeded' to promote rejuvenation of the area to Peat Bog. Research currently shows the areas return at a faster rate than Peat Bog left untouched. Peat Moss used for the commercial harvest including the growing industry currently represent approx 0.03% of peat bogs in Canada. (Source Peatland Ecology Research Group (PERG)
